3 IMPORTANT Copywriting Do’s & Don’ts!

3 IMPORTANT Copywriting Do’s & Don’ts!

By: Sophia Kiefer (Social Media Manager)

When writing copy for social media or digital content purposes, it is important to follow certain guidelines to ensure that you are being professional, strategic, and to-the-point. In this post, we are breaking down the most important do’s and don’ts when copywriting for your business or brand.

DO divide your copy into paragraphs. – If you do not adequately space out your writing, it can become difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the article. Although, this does not mean that you should go crazy with your spacing. Include indentations only where you feel is necessary to help the reader fully grasp the content of the article.

DO use catchy headlines between each section. – To keep your reader engaged, try adding a few catchy headlines each time the topic shifts. These headings can help your reader more easily identify what the copy is about and what sections of the article they may be most interested in reading.

DO include a clear CTA in your copy.– Having a clear call to action in any piece of writing is extremely important. When you are determining your CTA, think: “What do I want my reader to get out of reading this?”

DON’T use jargon or slang terms in your copywriting. – You want to keep your writing professional and one way to do this is to avoid using any sort of slang words or phrases. Also, avoid using any niche-specific jargon or terms that the average reader will not easily understand.

DON’T repeat a certain keyword or phrase to the point of overuse. – There is nothing worse than reading a piece of content and seeing the same word or phrase repeated over and over. An easy way to avoid this is to reference an online thesaurus to come up with a list of additional terms you can sprinkle in throughout your article.

DON’T forget to balance the text and images in your post. – In today’s day and age, including some type of media content within your writing is crucial. Most people will not have the attention span to read something without an image or video supplementing the text. So, don’t forget to add in that engaging element before you go to post!

We hope that these tips will help you to become more educated in copywriting and help make your future writing even stronger. If you run into any difficulty, reach out to us! Our social & content experts would love to help you beef up your copy and make it a must-read for every viewer.
